One of the world's biggest tech conferences returns to Lisbon this November. Here's what a visitor needs to know - when it runs, where it happens, how to get there, and how to fill the rest of the trip around it.
Web Summit has run in Lisbon every November since 2016, and the city is contracted to host it for years to come. Each edition draws tens of thousands of founders, investors, journalists and policymakers from well over 100 countries for four days of keynotes and panels on a very large startup exhibition floor - on top of a full week of satellite meetups, parties and side events spilling out across the rest of the city.
The conference runs across MEO Arena and the neighbouring FIL (Feira Internacional de Lisboa) exhibition halls, linked by a covered walkway. Centre Stage, the big keynote hall, sits inside the arena; the rest of the halls hold dozens of smaller stages plus the startup pavilions and sponsor booths. Set aside time just to find your way around - the exhibition floor alone covers several football pitches of ground.
If it's your first Web Summit
- Wear shoes you can walk all day in - the venue is enormous and stages are spread across multiple halls.
- Download the official app before you land; most meetups and schedule changes are organised through it.
- Book a hotel, and any dinner reservations, as early as you can - prices across the whole city rise sharply during the week.
- Lisbon in November is mild by northern European standards, with highs typically around 17-19°C, but evenings are cool and rain is common - pack a layer and something waterproof.
- Extra shuttle buses and metro trains run during the event, but Oriente station still gets very busy at the start and end of each day.
It doesn't stop when the halls close
Once the day's sessions wrap, Night Summit takes over - an official run of evening events in bars and clubs across the city, from Cais do Sodére to LX Factory. Line-up and access vary year to year, so check the current programme once your badge is confirmed.

Lisbon Journey Pass doesn't sell Web Summit tickets - registration runs entirely through websummit.com, where a handful of categories are on offer each year:

Prices rise the closer you get to November, and core ticket types have sold out ahead of the show in past years - if you know you're going, register early rather than waiting for the agenda to be finalised.
Where to stay
Parque das Nações, right around the venue, has modern riverside hotels and is the easiest option if you want to roll out of bed and be at Centre Stage in ten minutes - though the neighbourhood itself is quiet once the halls close.
Most visitors base themselves further into the city instead and ride the metro in each morning. Baixa-Chiado and Alfama put you a short walk from Lisbon's oldest streets, restaurants and Fado houses, both roughly 20-25 minutes from Oriente on the red and blue metro lines with one change. Príncipe Real and Avenida offer a similar trade-off with more nightlife on the doorstep.
Booking around the event
- Book as early as you can - citywide hotel prices rise sharply during Web Summit week, sometimes months ahead.
- Travelling as a team? An apartment in Alfama or Baixa can work out cheaper than several separate hotel rooms.
- Check minimum-stay rules - some hotels require multi-night bookings during the event.
Make the trip more than a conference
